"Slowly slowly"
A phrase used quite frequently here. Either to describe the way time seems to move here in Africa, the rate at which a project may get done, or the rate in which someone may be traveling to meet you at 9 am but right now its half past 11 and they are sill "coming".
That is what we call African time, and although at times, it seems to drag slowly by slowly, years pass, and when you look back at all that has been done and accomplished you see Gods faithfulness in it all! it's as if God multiplied your work right under your nose. It would be easy to take that for granted in a place like this, you could go on feeling frustrated at what feels like a slow moving process and miss the celebration of everything God HAS done.
This did not come by just sitting around, there where a lot of prayers and a lot of work, oh yes, and a lot of walking by faith!
2 CORINTHIANS 5:7
We walk by faith, not by sight
I believe walking by faith can sometimes look the same as building a house the way the people build here in Uganda. First, you need to buy the land and after that, you make your plan. Now that the plan is made you dig the foundation, then order your bricks, sand, and cement. The supplies come truck load by truck load and brick by brick you begin building.
You may have a blueprint or a drawing of it, but you still can't see it. Your may have piles of bricks everywhere ready to be used but unless you just start, it will just be a mess of bricks. So you have to start and brick by brick you continue, slowly by slowly, until before you realize it, you can see your finished project!
This is the way many things are done here, you have the vision, maybe you have just enough provision to start, so you start, and more provision comes and you keep going until suddenly you realize you are finished and started with the next project already!
God is always faithful, when He gives you a vision He will always give the provision!
Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Hebrews 13:20-21
Check out this video of our brick project! By making our own bricks we cut the cost of bricks into a 3rd! The money saved on bricks goes to other building supplies, so we are able to build and finish projects much faster! Praise God!
